Our Governors

We currently have a transition board due to the low numbers of local governors. Below you will find a list of the individual school governors along with important details regarding them.  If you would like to know more about the role of a school governor and how to become a governor, as well as forthcoming meeting dates and the minutes relating thereto, then please contact the school office.

Annual Governance Statement:

Governing Body

Annual Governance Statement 2024-2025

In accordance with the Government’s requirements for all governing bodies, the three core strategic functions of St Peter & St Paul Carbrooke Church of England Primary Academy & Nursery Local Governing Body are:

Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and

Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Governance arrangements

The Local Governing Body of St Peter and St Paul Carbrooke Church of England Primary Academy & Nursery has been functioning as an Academy for over nine years.

The membership of the governing body should be made up of two staff governors (including the Headteacher, two parent governors and seven trust governors. The trust governors are appointed by DNEAT and are people, who in the opinion of DNEAT, have the skills and commitment to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.  On the governing body there are now representatives from the local community, including members with skills in education, health and safety and business management. Unfortunately there are not enough trust goverrnors so currently there is a transition board in place until additional trust governors can be recruited.

The Skills Audit identifies a need for further training around confidence with academic questioning and capacity to be involved with school-related activities such as moderation, questionnaires and pupil voice.

The full Local Governing Body meets twice each term, usually online, with a clerk.

Attendance record of governors

Governors regularly attend the meetings and throughout the year and all meetings have been quorate thus allowing legal decisions to be made.

The Governing Body has had a busy year. The Headteacher has focused on addressing the academy single change plan and securing recruitment of permanent, well-qualified staff in order to raise the quality of teaching and to improve the pupils’ behaviour and attainment. The governors have worked closely with the Headteacher and DNEAT to secure the permanent staff.

The visits from the Area Group Executive Principal (AGEP) have provided evidence of the areas where progress is being made and has identified where further attention is required. The governors have received regular reports on the budget, premises and the changes to the curriculum.

Governors monitored the allocation and spending of additional money from the Pupil Premium Grant and the impact that this has had on the outcomes for pupils.  There is evidence of the gap narrowing between the children in receipt of Pupil Premium funding and the rest of the school.

Health and Safety checks are carried out regularly, accompanied by the Site Manager.  Governors are vigilant about the safeguarding of all pupils and the nominated governor monitors any safeguarding matters and reports back to the local governing body.

Governors no longer have the delegation to deal with financial matters.

The governors have received and adopted a number of policies that have been developed by DNEAT. These are available on the website or via the school office. The minutes of the governors’ meetings are public documents and can be viewed via the school office.

Future plans for the governors

The school continues to build its relationship with parents and the wider community and is being  supported by DNEAT, which has allocated specific focus from a nationally recognised practitioner in developing school and family partnership.

The school had encorporated the local pre-school provision and there is improved EYFS provision at the school which covers those aged 2-5 years.

How you can contact the Local Governing Body

We welcome suggestions, feedback and ideas from parents. The Chair of Governors can be contacted via the school office and will meet with any parent when in the school.  An appointment is necessary as visits are timed to suit the school timetable.
